‘Play ‘Til The Whistle’
I am not sure that all of my American friends are up to speed on this, but every European knows that the semi-finals of the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2008, are on now!
I will leave you who have ‘peaked’ interest to research for yourselves the full details, but for the rest, it is enough to say that this is the huge sporting event of the summer!
There have been several amazing games played already & more than once we have seen the disappointment that comes when you don’t … ‘play ’til the whistle’.
Coaches are famous for pounding this phrase into the heads of their athletes!
The point is that you do not let up or quit playing until you hear the whistle. As long as the game is still on you must keep playing!
It can be humorous to see all that coaches do to make their point & even more humorous to see their reactions when their teams do not … ‘play ’til the whistle’!
This is a critical lesson to be learned, not just for athletes but Christ-followers as well!
We have been given a similar mandate in the scriptures to … ‘play ’til the whistle’!
We are reminded in John 9:4 to ‘work while it is day because night is coming when no one can work’ & in Galatians 6:9 the message is that, ‘we dare not become weary in doing good because we will be rewarded if we do not give up’!
‘Play ‘Til The Whistle’ – a great word for Euro 2008 & all of us as well!! (Go Spain!)
