Relational Retreat 2010
FEIC’s first relational retreat was held in April near Venice, Italy. Jeff Slaughter, FEIC communications consultant, sat down with Terry Hoggard, FEIC coordinator to discuss the retreat, its purpose and the possibility of future retreats. The brief interview follows.
1. Tell us how the idea for the relational retreat came about?
Terry: It grew out of an awareness that as a relational network we want to consistently and progressively do three things:
* Encourage relational connections
* Establish shared resources
* Empower leaders
We had already established an annual Leadership Summit that seeks to do all three of these things but it is a very scheduled event, so we felt that another gathering that was much more informal would provide another opportunity for these things to happen.
2. How was Venice chosen as the location? Tell us about the hotel, restaurant, friends of Steve & Patti?
Steve & Patti discovered this great family-run hotel in Caorle which is a coastal beach town really. Ruthanne & I went with them to see it, met Bruno and his wife Giovanna & felt it was the perfect setting for us. Five minutes from the beach, free bicycles, large patios, great rooms, even greater food & incredible hosts!! I think we found a home!
3) Tell us some of the things you guys did during the retreat.
We were a small group this time – only 8 couples and one very sweet little girl which meant that we could do almost everything together. Couples did have time together on their own but for the most part we enjoyed each other’s company. Bike rides around the city, shopping, the beach, late night sharing and the much expected trip into Venice! The weather was fabulous, the hospitality was so gracious and we made a lot of memories togther!
4) What are your hopes for future relational retreats?
I just think being together in this way is so good for us! Finding a date that works for everyone is a big challenge as well. My hope is that those who can come will & that this will be a gathering that adds increasing value to FEIC and furthers our desire to encourage, establish & empower!!
