BECAUSE RELATIONSHIPS MATTER

He Must Become Greater; I Must Become Less

In John 3, some of John’s disciples had questions about baptism. John responds by testifying about Jesus and makes one of the most profound statements of his ministry career:

“He must become greater; I must become less.”

John’s declaration challenges me every day of my life. We all love God but in our busyness of trying to work for God we can easily lose focus that it’s not about what we do for Him, it’s about Him!

“He must become greater; I must become less.”

I recently heard University of North Central President Scott Hagan point out a progression in the Apostle Paul’s identity as a leader:

▪ To the Galatians, he introduces himself as “I Paul, the Apostle.”
▪ To the Corinthians, he introduces himself as “I Paul, least of the Apostles.”
▪ To the church in Ephesus, he introduces himself as “I Paul, least among the saints.”
▪ Finally to Timothy he writes, “I Paul, chief among sinners.”
It’s interesting how Paul’s perspective changed over 25 years of ministry. Mine is changing too. “How about you?”

May we all decrease today so that Jesus might increase! Would you take a moment and make that your prayer?

We pray you have a powerful weekend of ministry!!

Larry
