Thanksgiving!!

For many of us the very word invokes images of family, food & football!

Somehow all of this together creates a vibrant, festive environment which is easy to enjoy & embrace!

Of course …

Between The Pumpkin Pie & The Turkey … there is the reality of what Thanksgiving is truly all about!

Popular historians tell us that in 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast which is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies.

Obviously, we can not know exactly what was in their hearts, but we can know what is in ours!

Between The Pumpkin Pie & The Turkey … here is what Ruthanne & I will be doing!

This Thanksgiving we will be gathering with missionary colleagues in Brussels, who are also far from home, but all of us are nonetheless grateful for God’s favor in big & small ways, for His faithfulness that never ends & for the fulness that He brings to every dimension of our lives.

Like you, we will reflect on all that He has done for us and then with hearts bursting with praise, we will dedicate our Thanksgiving Day to ‘saying thanks’ … over and over and over again!!

Between The Pumpkin Pie & The Turkey … our great hope is that you will do the same because in this way we redeem the spiritual value of this holiday in every way!

Did You Know?

Many of the Pilgrims who would end up at the Plymouth Plantation had resided in the city of Leiden in the Netherlands (Holland) from 1609–1620, many of whom had recorded their birth, marriages and deaths at the Pieterskerk church.
To commemorate this, a non-denominational Thanksgiving Day service is held each year on the morning of the American Thanksgiving Day in the Pieterskerk, a Gothic church in Leiden, to commemorate the hospitality the Pilgrims received in Leiden on their way to the New World.
